Getting around London

Paying for Public Transport

All public transport in London – including tubes, buses, trams, and the Elizabeth Line – is cashless. You’ll need either:

  • A Contactless Debit/Credit Card, or
  • An Oyster Card (standard or Visitor Oyster).

How do I get to the Mitre House HOTEL from Gatwick Airport?

Fastest Option: Gatwick Express

  • Takes approx. 35 minutes to Victoria Station.
  • From Victoria, take the Circle line to Paddington (approx. 10 mins), then it's a 5-minute walk to us.
  • Buy tickets – prices from £19.50 one way.

Scenic Option: 36 Bus

  • From Victoria Station, hop on the 36 bus towards Paddington. Sit on the top deck for lovely views around Hyde Park!

Budget Option: National Express Coach

  • Approx. 2 hrs 20 mins to Victoria, then Tube or Bus to Paddington.

Cheapest Tube Option

  • Piccadilly Line to Earl’s Court > change to District Line to Paddington.

  • Approx. 55 mins to Victoria Station, then Circle Line or 36 bus to Paddington.

Fastest Option: Stansted Express

  • Approx. 47 minutes to Liverpool Street.
  • From there, take the Central Line to Lancaster Gate – we’re a 7-minute walk away.

  • Around 2 hrs to Mile End. Change to the Central Line to Lancaster Gate.

How do I get to the Mitre House Hotel from London City Airport?

Fastest Public Transport Option

  • Take the DLR to Bank, then switch to the Central Line to Lancaster Gate.
  • Approx. 45 minutes in total.

Taxi/Minicab

  • Black cabs cost around £50 and take approx. 1 hour.

How do I get to the Mitre House Hotel from Luton Airport?

Budget Option: Easybus

  • From £1.99 in advance. Approx. 1 hr 7 mins direct to Paddington.

Comfortable Coach: National Express

  • From £7 one way, direct to Paddington.

Train Option

  • Bus from the airport to Luton Airport Parkway (7 mins).
  • Train to Farringdon, then Tube to Paddington.
  • From £19.50.

Parking and Congestion Charge

Can I reserve a spot?

We have 18 spaces and operate on a first come, first-served basis.
We nearly always have spaces available, but on the occasion, we do not you can try

St John’s Church (a short walk away) offers parking for £15 per day. Alternatively, check Parkopedia for nearby options.

Vehicles over 5m long or 2.2m high are not permitted.

Congestion Charge

We’re outside the Congestion and ULEZ zones, but the boundary starts nearby (Edgware Road/Park Lane).

Air conditioning and Heating

As a historic grade 2 listed Georgian hotel, we do not have air conditioning in our rooms. 

As a historic Georgian building, we do not have air conditioning. However, fans are available at reception and our windows open fully. Radiators provide adjustable heating during colder months

Is there a safe in each room?

Not in-room, but we offer free safety deposit boxes at reception.

What are your check-in and check-out times?

  • Check-in: From 2:00 PM
  • Check-out: By 11:00 AM

If you arrive early or your journey home is likely to be later then we do have space to store luggage for you on the day of check-in and check-out.

Can you accommodate my dietary requirements?

We offer almond milk and gluten-free bread. Let us know in advanc,e and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

There are nearby supermarkets (M&S, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose) with good free-from ranges. We’re happy to store and prepare guest-supplied items too.

Are all of the rooms in your hotel en-suite?

Yes. All rooms include a shower, and some have bathtubs.

Do you accept group bookings? 

We do not allow stag/hen or school group bookings. For bookings of 5+ rooms, please contact us directly.

Are disabled rooms available at your hotel?

We warmly welcome all guests and do not discriminate on the basis of disability. However, as Mitre House Hotel is a listed historic building, we do face some limitations in terms of accessibility.

Please note:

  • There are three steps leading up to the front entrance, and unfortunately, we do not currently have a ramp.

  • While we do have a lift to all guest floors, our rooms and corridors were designed in a different era and may not be spacious enough to comfortably accommodate wheelchairs—especially electric models, which tend to be larger.

  • Some rooms have steps within them or on the approach, which may present a challenge for guests with limited mobility.

We strongly encourage guests with specific access needs to contact us directly before booking. This allows us to offer honest guidance about whether our facilities will meet your needs and recommend the most suitable room options wherever possible.

Are tea and coffee-making facilities and shampoo and shower gel, available in every room?

A kettle, cup and saucer, and sachets of tea, coffee, milk and sugar are available in every one of our rooms. Shampoo and shower gel are also provided.

Are hairdryers, universal adaptors and fridges available at your hotel?

All of our rooms come with hairdryers.  A limited number of universal adaptors are also available on request (subject to availability). We have a fridge that can be made available at reception if specially requested, and our Junior Suites have refrigerators in the rooms.

Are ironing facilities available at all of your hotels?

An ironing board and iron are available for use. Please ask reception for access.


Are baby cots available at all of your hotels? 

Baby cots, which are suitable for infants under 2 years of age, can be booked online free of charge. *Subject to availability.

Is wireless internet available?

We have high-speed, high-quality internet in all of our rooms at the Mitre House. We understand that our modern customers need connection and we are more than happy to provide it. It is also included in the cost of your stay, so there is no need to pay extra!

Is breakfast included in the price of my room?

full cooked English breakfast is included in the price of a room. 
Breakfast is served between 07:00 and 09:00, 7 days a week.

Is room service available?

We don’t currently offer room service.

Is a laundry service available at your hotel?

Mitre House Hotel does not provide laundry facilities. However, we do have several reputable dry cleaners nearby and a Launderette in Star Street which is approximately 7 minutes walk away.
